Mason County Falls to Bourbon County in OT

Maysville, KY – After holding Bourbon County to 11 per cent shooting in the first half, the Mason County Royalssaw a different Colonel team come out of the locker room and steal a 77-61 win in overtime at the Mason County Fieldhouse Monday night. 

The Royals lead 14 to 8 after the first quarter and held Bourbon County to just four points in the second quarter to take a 25-12 lead into the locker room at halftime. When both teams returned to floor, the two 10th region heavyweights battled back and forth throughout the rest of the game.

When the horn sounded in regulation, the score was 55-55 and another five minutes was needed to determine the winner. Bourbon County outscored Mason County 22-6 in overtime handing the Royals their second loss of the season. 

Mason County had to go without seniors Braden May and Caron Brammer in taking on a quick Bourbon County squad. The Royals were lead by Alex Schlach’s 16 points followed by Xylon Frey with 14 and Jeremiah Jones with 10 points on the night.

Amirion Joyce lead Bourbon County with 21 points while Nakwan Joyce added 18 and Nakyir Joyce finished with 11. Mukonkole Lukonga also had 10 points for the Colonels.

Bourbon County remains unbeaten at 3-0 and will return to action Friday as they host their cross town rival Paris. Mason County fell to 1-2 and will face Scott at the Fieldhouse on Friday.
