​Hughes Leads Lady Saints Past Dayton

Maysville, KY – Allison Hughes scored a career high 24 points as the St. Patrick Lady Saints defeated Dayton 58-45 Wednesday night at The Shamrock.

The Lady Devils journeyed out of the 9th region and grabbed a first quarter lead 13-9 and gave St. Patrick trouble with their man to man defense for most of the first half.

Hughes scored seven of her 11 first half points, including a three pointer at the buzzer to end the half all square at 25-25. Dayton’s Johnessah Barbiea scored 12 of her 24 points in the first half to even the score before the break.

The Lady Saints opened up the second half with an 8-0 run and outscored Dayton 15-8 to take a 40-33 lead after three quarters of play. St. Patrick Freshman Caroline McKay scored 9 of her 14 points in the fourth quarter as the Lady Saints pulled away for the 13 point win.

The Lady Saints placed three players in double figures with Hughes leading the way with 24, McKay poured in 14 and Senior Justina Klee added 10. Dayton was led in scoring by Barbiea’s 24 followed by Liberty Windeler’s 8 and Sophia Halfhill’s six point effort.

St. Patrick improved to 3-1 and will return to action Friday when they travel to Brooksville Friday for an 8 p.m. matchup with Bracken County.

Dayton falls to 1-5 and will have a week to regroup before taking on Lloyd Memorial on Wednesday December 18th.
