Lewis County Defeats Lady Saints in Foul Fest

Maysville, KY – If Oprah Winfrey was the PA announcer during Monday night’s game between St. Patrick Lady Saints and Lewis County, then she would have given away fouls like she gives away prizes on her show. The Lady Lions defeated St. Patrick 71-48 in a game that included 51 fouls between both teams.

The Lady Saints had four players foul out and two others finishing with four each. As a team, St. Patrick recorded 29 fouls and had 17 turnovers as Lewis County simply proved to be a better team in the school’s only matchup of the season.

The Saint’s leading scorer Allison Hughes was held to just nine points on the night as she was one of the starters who exited early in the fourth quarter with her fifth and final foul. Freshman MaKenna Roush recorded a season high 13 points and was the only Lady Saint to score in double figures.

Lewis County connected on 30 of 42 free throws compared to St. Patrick’s 14 of 27 from the charity stripe. The Lady Lions were led in scoring Sarah Weddington’s 22 points. Aliyah Horsley recorded 21 and Payton McGlone added 10 for the Lady Lions.

St. Patrick now stands at 14-11 and is scheduled to host Greenup County in the team’s final home game of the season Tuesday night at the Shamrock.
