​Mason County Holds Off Augusta to Win 39th District

Brooksville, KY – The road to the 10th Regional Tournament at George Rogers Clark went through Bracken County this week and the Mason County Royals found their way earning another 39th District title in a 61-56 win over the Augusta Panthers.

First, the Royals took down a determined Bracken County on Tuesday, winning by just four points. Up next was a rematch with Augusta who advanced to the championship game by defeating St. Patrick on Monday night. 

Mason County got off to slow start scoring only seven first quarter points and found themselves down 13-7 at the end of quarter play. The Royals got things back on track on the second, scoring 17 points and trailed by only four points at the half.

The Royals put together a solid third quarter, outscoring Augusta 19-19 and went to defeat the Panthers for the second time this year.

Mason County (18-11) was led in scoring by Alex Schlach with 14. The senior center recorded his second double-double this week grabbing 12 rebounds on the night.

Augusta (14-18) was led in scoring by Kayson Hinson’s 24 points while Cameron White was the only other Panther in double figures with 11. 

Both teams must now get ready for regional play that begins next week at George Rogers Clark in Winchester, KY. Tournament pairing will take place this Saturday.
