Brooksville, KY – Mason County traveled to the Igloo for their 39th district matchup against rival Bracken County Tuesday night. The Royals used old fashioned rebounding and free throw shooting and escaped with a 54-40 victory to advance to Thursday night’s championship game.

The win didn’t come easy as Bracken County’s backcourt Blake Reed and his younger brother Cayden, caused havoc for much of the first half.

Mason County outrounded the Polar Bears 31-17 and made 26 trips to the free throw line, connecting on 15 from the stripe. Senior standout Alex Schlach recorded a double-double as he led the Royals with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Xylon Frey had 11 points while Carson Brammer recorded 10 on the night.

Bracken was led in scoring by eight grade sensation Blake Reed who had game high 26 points. Reed’s younger brother Cayden added 10 points and was only other Bracken County player in double figures.

The Royals move on to face the Augusta Panthers for the championship game. Mason County defeated Augusta on the Panther’s home floor 60-54 back in January.
