MOREHEAD, Ky
. – The Morehead State Women’s Basketball team dropped a 63-56 decision to Ohio Valley Conference adversary Belmont on Thursday evening at Johnson Arena.

Morehead State led in the game for more than half of the opening two quarters. The Eagles found their largest lead at 27-20 with 5:41 remaining until halftime by way of a layup from sophomore Ellie Jo Johnson.

However, the Bruins were able close the half on an 11-3 run to take momentum into the break.

With both teams struggling to find a rhythm offensively in the second half, the Bruins turned to Preseason All-OVC Player of the Year Ellie Harmeyer who was able to get to cash in on 16-of-17 attempts from the charity stripe. The forward led the game in both points and rebounds with a 27-point, 19-rebound double-double.

From the field, the Eagles hit 19-of-54 (.352) attempts but were able to counter by limiting Belmont to an 18-of-52 (.346) shooting night. In uncharacteristic fashion, Morehead State went 16-of-29 (.552) from the free throw line. The Eagles have a season free throw percentage of .716.

The victory moves the Bruins overall record in the 2019-20 season to 18-8 and its OVC mark to 13-2.

Morehead State falls to 9-18 overall with the loss and is now 5-10 against OVC competition.

Next up, the Eagles will take on Tennessee State in the final home game of the season. Prior to the game, the team will recognize the contributions and careers of seniors Breuna JacksonJaleesa Avery, and Orlandra Humphries.
