Morehead State WOMEN’S HOOPS MEETS EKU IN RICHMOND FOR SEASON FINALE ON SATURDAY

MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Morehead State Women’s Basketball team will matchup with in-state rival Eastern Kentucky in its 2019-20 season finale on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. ET at McBrayer Arena in Richmond.

Pride will be at stake the Eagles and Colonels in the game as both have been eliminated from the 2020 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament after failing to finish as a top-eight team in the leagues’ standings.

Morehead State, possessing an overall mark of 10-19 and 6-11 in OVC play, will be missing the conference tournament for the first time since the 2015-16 season. The Eagles were eliminated from contention on Thursday after their comeback bid, led by junior Jazzmyn Elston’s 21 second-half points, was thwarted by Austin Peay in a 70-65 decision on the road.

EKU, which is 10-19 for season as well, is 4-13 vs. OVC opponents and will be absent from the league’s tournament for the third consecutive season. The Colonels had their fate sealed on Thursday as well when they were edged out 66-65 by Murray State on the Racers’ home court.

On Feb. 13, Eastern Kentucky defeated Morehead State 68-47 at Johnson Arena. In the defeat, which was the Eagles first against the Colonels in their three prior meetings, MSU struggled to find its shot and finished 17-of-61 (.279) from the field. EKU’s Teri Goodlett registered a game-high 17 points while MSU was led by freshman Ariel Kirkwood’s 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The all-time series between the rivals is controlled 52-46 by the Colonels.
