WOMEN’S BASKETBALL’S JALEESA AVERY INKS PROFESSIONAL CONTRACT IN KOSOVO

By Ryan Frye, Morehead State Athletic Media RelationsMOREHEAD, Ky. – Following a successful Morehead State career, women’s basketball’s Jaleesa Avery has inked a professional contract, signing with Bashkimi Prizren of the Kosovo-Superleague.

As an Eagle, Avery did not miss a game, appearing in all 64 the program played over her two seasons while collecting 39 starts, including all 30 games of the 2019-20 season. As a member of the 2018-19 Eagle squad, she helped the squad to 24 wins—the second-best single-season total in program history—and the program’s second-ever birth to the Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT).

“Our program is excited about Jaleesa’s opportunity to play professionally,” said head coach Greg Todd. “She had an excellent career at MSU, including a big role during our record-breaking 2018-19 season.”

For her career, Avery logged an average of 16.5 minutes per game while averaging 4.8 points and 3.2 rebounds per game, including career-highs of 17 points (vs. Kentucky Christian: 11/26/18) and 14 rebounds (vs. Tennessee State: 2/22/20). She also added 41 blocks, 35 assists, and 23 steals in her two seasons at Morehead State.

Located in Prizren, Kosovo, Bashkimi Prizren is the oldest professional basketball organizations in Kosovo while also being one of the oldest basketball organizations in the Balkans. Last season, Bashkimi Prizren finished 14-1 and atop the Kosovo-Superleague standings prior to the suspension of the 2019-20 season due to the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic.
