Men’s Basketball Turns Back Transylvania for Second Straight Day, 81-55

MOREHEAD, Ky. —
 Despite a slow start and an early deficit, Morehead State basketball turned on the gas midway through the first half and kept it on in the final half as the Eagles toppled Transylvania (Ky.) 81-55 Thursday for its second win over the Pioneers in as many days.

Morehead State (3-4) shot 52 percent overall, including 57 percent in the second half, and wiped away a 12-2 deficit in the first six minutes to outscore the visitors 23-5 in the final eight minutes of the opening half.

Freshman forward Johni Broome led all players with his second career double-double (21 points, 10 rebounds) as four Eagles dotted double figures in the point column.

KEY MOMENTS

– Brandon Cromwell’s three-pointer at 14:45 of the opening half propelled Transy to its biggest lead, 12-2.
– Senior forward James Baker, Jr., hit a bucket at the 5:29 mark to give his team a 24-22 lead, and the Eagles never relinquished that lead the rest of the night.
– From the 8:04 mark of the first period, MSU outscored TU 23-5. Junior guard Skyelar Potter’stip-in with 41 ticks left set the halftime margin at 38-27.
– Broome connected with 14:06 left in the game to push his team’s lead to 22 (52-30).
– With 5:54 remaining, junior guard KJ Hunt buried a three-pointer. He added two free throws a minute later for a 75-46 cushion, MSU’s biggest lead.
