Year End Wrap Up Kentucky Wildcats

By Peggy Gilligan

Since I haven’t written an article about the North Carolina game last week, I thought I would combine the last two together, North Carolina and Louisville.  Kentucky is now 1-6 heading into 2021 and theconference part of the schedule.

The Cats fell short in the game with North Carolina on December 19th 75-63.  Carolina shot 43% from he field and Kentucky 40%.  The biggest problem for Kentucky was the twenty fouls committed in the second half resulting in four players fouling out of the game.  The bigs could not stay in the game starting with under eight minutes left in the game.  First it was Ware, then Jackson, followed by Sarr, and finally Clarke.

Keion Brooks spoke at he post game press conference, saying too many mental errors and lack of attention to detail lead to the defeat.  He said he chose to speak because he was a team leader.  He also encouraged the BBN to keep believing as  the players fight through this tough time.

Early in the week it was announced that Cam’RonFletcher had been sent home for some self-evaluationand Cal assured the press and the public he would return to the team.

The next game was against our in state rival Louisvilleon December 20th at the Yum Center.  The Cats played fairly well in the first half.  Unfortunately, in the second half the problems resurfaced.  The inability to make three point shots, foul shots, and long droughts of not making field goals led to another loss for Kentucky.  The only bright spots with this game was that Louisville had more turnovers than Kentucky 13-11,

Due to Covid concerns on South Carolina’s team the Tuesday December 29th game has been postponed.  Hopefully with the extra time for practice the Wildcats get some confidence and the shooting woes end.

The next game for Kentucky is scheduled for January 2nd against Mississippi State in Starkville with a tip time of 6:00PM.
