MOREHEAD, Ky. — Morehead State men’s basketball will look to sweep the season series over Tennessee State for the second consecutive year Monday when the Tigers travel to Johnson Arena for a 7 p.m. ET matchup. The game is a reschedule from earlier when CoVID protocols prevented the teams from playing.

MSU ran its overall winning streak to an OVC-best eight and improved to 6-0 in the league race Saturday over SIUE. The Eagles (14-5) defeated the Tigers in Nashville just nine days ago.

The game can be heard on the Eagle Sports Radio Network (WIVY-96.3 FM) with Chuck Mraz and Dean Hardin. It’s also available on MSUEagles.com as well as network partner WGOH 100.9 FM/1370 AM. ESPN+ carries the TV broadcast with Jared Stacy and Mike Tussey on the call.

NOTABLE• Since the first meeting back in 1980, MSU is 27-11 against TSU in games played in Morehead.

• Morehead State ran its home court winning streak to 17 games with the win over SIUE Saturday. MSU’s current win streak in home games is tied for fourth in the nation, tied with Kansas. This current streak is the second longest in program history, trailing just the 2009-10 and 2010-11 teams who combined for a school-record 23-game home court success run.

• In the last two seasons, when the calendar has changed to the new year, Morehead State has been nearly unbeatable. MSU is 25-2 in the months of January, February and March in 2020-21 and 2021-22, including a perfect 15-0 in January games. MSU has only lost to Belmont (on the road) and West Virginia (in the NCAA Tournament) in that span.

• During the Eagles’ current eight-game winning streak, the Eagles have shot 45 percent or better overall versus all eight of the opponents. In half of those contests, the Eagles connected on 50 percent or better.

• In the last four games, MSU has hit 48 percent (38-of-78) from three-point range.

• Johni Broome is on the Lou Henson Award Watch List for the second straight season. The award by CollegeInsider.com honors the nation’s best mid-major player.

• Johni Broome leads the OVC and ranks tied for fourth in the nation in double-doubles with 12 this season. He now has 25 double-doubles in 49 career games. Morehead State is 21-4 in the last two seasons when Broome records a double-double.

• Johni Broome blocked six shots against SIUE, marking the sixth game this year he has recorded six blocks. He also enters the game with at least 2+ blocks in six straight games.

• Ta’Lon Cooper leads the OVC and ranks sixth nationally with 6.4 assists per game. Cooper has 10 games with 7+ assists, including a pair of 12-assist efforts. He is now up to 327 career assists, which is eighth in program career history. Cooper needs just three more assists to pass former point man Nikola Stojakovic into seventh place in program career history.

• Tray Hollowell has hit at least one three-pointer in all 19 games in 2021-22 and owns a string of 26 consecutive games with at least one three-ball made since last season at Wofford. Hollowell recently scored his 1,000th career collegiate point and enters the TSU game with 1,026 career points.

• Junior guard Skyelar Potter has found his shooting touch the last two games. He scored 17 against Belmont and SIUE, shooting 12-for-21 (.571) overall and 7-for-12 (.583) from three-point range.

• While Tray Hollowell has reached the 1,000-point plateau, three other current Eagles are creeping ever closer to that milestone. Wright State transfer Jaylon Hall has 844 collegiate points, while fellow Wright State transfer Skyelar Potter has 822. In less than two seasons, Johni Broome is already at 719. With potentially two more seasons after this, Ta’Lon Cooper also has a chance to join the club with 635 career markers right now.
