FOOTBALL COMPLETES 2022 STAFF WITH ADDITIONS OF JUWAN OWENS AND SCOTTIE LAW 


By Matt Schabert, Morehead State Athletic Media RelationsMOREHEAD, Ky. –– Ahead of the 2022 season opener, the Morehead State Football coaching staff has been rounded out with the additions of Juwan Owens and Scottie Law, Jr. Owens will mentor the Eagle cornerbacks, while Law will work with defensive ends.

Owens has an extensive teaching and coaching background, most recently at Calhoun Falls (S.C.) Charter School, where he served as head football and head baseball coach. There he helped guide a pair of all-state honorees at linebacker and defensive back.

During the COVID-19 season in 2020-21, he served as defensive backs at Gardner-Webb, coaching a Second-Team All-Big South pick.

Owens was the defensive coordinator and special teams coach at Dakota College at Bottineau (N.D.) in the 2019 season. His units earned three junior college All-American honors, while the defense ranked third in the nation in forced turnovers. He coached four First-Team All-Division athletes.

As the running backs coach at Scott’s Branch (S.C.) High School in 2018, Owens led a 1,000-yard rusher. He also mentored the defensive backs, who collected 10 interceptions. He helped one player reach all-state status and also was an assistant track and field coach where three athletes earned all-state accolades.

He began his coaching foray at Gaffney (S.C.) High School in 2015 and 2016, where he helped coach a 1,000-yard rusher and an all-state pick each season.

Owens graduated with his bachelor’s degree in 2016 from Limestone (S.C.). He earned his Master’s Degree from Southern Nazarene (Okla.) in 2021.

Law comes to MSU following the spring season as the assistant linebackers coach at Howard. Prior to Howard, Law served as assistant defensive backs coach at Lake Erie (Ohio).

At LE, Law helped the team to its most wins (5) in program history. He coached the top-ranked passing defense in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference and helped three defensive backs garner all-conference awards. 

Law played three seasons at Glenville State (W.Va.), where he graduated with his bachelor’s degree in 2018.
